To be able to sell a domain name do I need to buy the domain name in a different way?
I wonder if I just buy a domain name for example from yahoo, can I sell the name to the third party?
Isn't that simple as buying and selling a car?
What are the important points that I should consider through this buying and reselling procedure?
Thank you very much.

I entered a domain name to order, and it said it was already in use but that for $18.99 I could backorder it. Is that a yearly fee or one time fee until the name becomes available? Also, should I contact the current owner directly since their registration info is listed publicly and ask if they want to selll it to me? What would be the procedure to do that? Thanks!

I have registered domain names for an upcoming release of a product. The release has been known for quite some time and surprisingly, the domains were available. I would like to know if there are certain domains that are illegal, if I'm planning to offer a service related to the products trademarked name.
what if i'm not using something like ipod.com but something like ipodservicecenter, ipod magazine, or ipoddrives.com(s)
now, if they've trade marked ipod musical cinema - can i get ipodmusicalcinema.com ?

My Question = How do I change my domain name without losing my email associated with the old domain?
I have a Yahoo Small Business website, and numerous email addresses connected with that website, and don't want to lose them, because I like having all my email accounts in one place.
However, over the years, my interests have changed, and I want to create a website with a different domain name. How can I change the name without losing the email associated with the old domain.

For an example, a person wants to create a website about politics. And the discussions on the site might be somewhat radical, which can cause trouble to the founder if their information is revealed.
How can that person own a domain name without revealing personal information?
PS: I've heard of a feature called "private registration." Is it a safe and risk-free way?

I registered a domain name a few months ago with a little known company. The problem is the company's service is a piece of crap - half the time their name servers are down. So I want to transfer that domain name to godaddy. So how do I go about it? Do I need to notify the old registrar and get their permission or can I just pay godaddy for the transfer and have it take place?

There are plenty of damin names out there with potential. Potential means nothing without a business plan. If you have a domain name that you feel is worth money, you are wrong. A domain name by itself is worthless unless there is someone out there who is willing to invest in it.

I am not sure how this works legally. If someone were to buy a domain after it had expired and the renew period had ended and the original owner had not renewed could a competing business then legally forward traffic to their own site after buying the domain? In this case the domain is the name of the other business.

I have a very catchy domain name, and a hosting server laying around for about a year now. I want to start some type of online business, but I'm only sixteen. What I want to start is a business that will get me some money in my pockets, not a billionaire. What are some good ideas I should start? I've tried selling my things on ebay, but that's not really what I want to do. I want to provide a service, or anything on my website to make money.

I own a company and the domain name is already taken and used by another company that only uses it to redirect people to there main site. So they dont even need it. I contacted them and they are willing to sell me the domain name. She told me to make her an offer and I am trying to figure out a ballpark figure to offer her. Please be realistic. Thanks.

We're about to shift to a new hosting company and I need to know this info - how can I find out? Thanks

If not what taxes would you pay and if you sell the domain next year (2008) are you exempt from CGT under the rule that if you fall into the 10% to !5% tax bracket you pay no CGT in 2008. This would be in the United States.
Obviously we would make a profit from the sale of the domain name.
